Synopsis
The funniest Hong Kong comedy of the early 1980s, Let's Make Laugh was Shaw Brothers' most popular film of 1983. Alfred Cheung Kin-ting, who produced Jackie Chan’s Highbinders, scored his first big success as the director-writer of this yuppie comedy and picked up a Hong Kong Film Awards for Best Screenplay in the process. Cecilia Yip was named Best Actress for her portrayal of a young housewife whose debt-ridden, philandering husband leaves her with a mountain of debts. Kenny Bee is the security guard hired by the government to guard the assets and ends up more interested in guarding Cecilia. Watch for teenage Anita Mui Yim-fong, just beginning her road to superstardom, in the supporting role of Kenny's girlfriend, while Cecilia's renegade spouse is played by Chang Kuo-chu, father of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon star Chang Chen.
